An abundant life is a life of freedom to pursue what brings you happiness and joy. Shifting from an expectation driven existence, to a slower pace is something many people crave, even if they cannot quite grasp the possibility.
Abundant living involves having the finances and availability of choices to make your dreams a reality without worrying about status, security, or comfort. Yet, life today is filled beyond description with material excesses, which tend to produce boredom, discontent, frustration, anxiety, and ultimately unhappiness.
Many people, especially families, want to get out more with their children to experience adventure and abundance. Living an abundant forest life incorporates prosperity with each family member’s unique interests and dreams, shifting towards exuberance, gratitude, contentment, and fulfillment.
Everyday we are faced with choices. We need to look deep within ourselves to decide what we value and what we want more of.
Throughout my life, I have felt drawn into nature, eager to seek the forest, like anything else was a distraction. The older I got the more I got sucked into doing what was expected of me: Go to university, get a career, make a life, and do it all for 40 years until you retire.
For a while I followed, got a government desk job, got married, started a family. I always felt like I was missing out on what life was supposed to be. I couldn’t understand why I was supposed to wait until retirement to live the life of my dreams. All around me I saw sad people, counting down the years until they could get out of there.
We made some changes and added some spontaneity to our allotted days off and vacation time. Embracing the forest and taking adventures to remote areas helped us feel the thrill of what this world has to offer. But it is so hard to schedule in.
So, we stopped scheduling and started focusing on living an abundant life. We went on a holiday to the rainforest on the west coast of North America. It was a two-week vacation, but a few days in we extended our stay. Then, we decided to stay the winter.
We ended up staying there for two years. That spontaneous action changed how we live completely. It opened our eyes up to the fact that life is meant to be lived now and that the richness of the world is in the forest.
Taking the leap to live a philosophy that felt real, we started realigning with the seasons, sunrise, and weather to allow us to live freely rather than focusing on a calendar or following a plan.
Everyone wanted to check in and tell us why we were making them uncomfortable and making a huge mistake for our family.
Then there were the people we came across on our adventures:
• The old sailor who chatted with us as we went kayaking and told us to keep doing things as a family.
• The CEO we met in the forest who commented on how calm and at ease our children were in nature.
• And countless families who wanted to know how we managed to live the way we do; location independent, flexible schedule, surrounded by nature.
The urge to live an abundant forest life was growing as we visited and spoke with off-grid homesteaders, permaculture farmers, and people creating food forests. For us it was a process of realizing what is important.
Since 2020 many people have had similar realizations. Families want their time back. Parents want to spend more time with their children. All of it is possible for everyone.
An abundant lifestyle isn’t just about having lots of stuff—it’s about having everything we need now and in the future. Abundance includes having energy, freedom, love, peace and joy. Living an abundant life means enjoying life with peace of mind, financial stability, freedom, security & opportunity. Don’t wait: Choose an abundant forest life today.
The richness I achieve comes from Nature, the source of my inspiration.
